Later

Something to write about later today, after sleep.

Intense Math Blogs

Sometime today, in the bathroom, I was thinking about how my blogging have become more regular and diverse.  Sometime, I do try to comment on things.  This happened in the bathroom, for instance.  Sometimes, I do go back and polish a post.  I'm just starting to think that there might be something constructive, or productive, happening with this blog, besides being a dumping ground for my frustrations.

So tonight, after office hours and review sessions for Chem and Bio, I read this article from The Unofficial Stanford Blog: http://tusb.stanford.edu/2010/10/terence-tao-talks-about-things-that-i-can-understand.html

And then I went to his website: http://terrytao.wordpress.com/

Where I did not understand a single word.

Holy cow, what a blog.

Bloodhound

I stayed up all night reading Bloodhound, and finished it this morning.  It was good, and reminded me of my early years.  I first found Tamora Pierce at my local library in middle school, and have grown up with her since.  I suppose I'm lucky that she writes so much, though since then I've added more writers to my belt.  It's nice when you're old enough to realize that you'll always have something new to read, if ever you took the time to do so!

I've read all of her major works up to date by finishing Bloodhound, and by now I have a pretty good understanding of her writing style.  It hasn't changed much.  Even though the adventures are lengthier, more detailed, more adult and physically more massive, I'm disappointed to find the plot still predictable.  Did I expect the heroine to do anything less than nab the main antagonist single-handedly, immediately after being dismissed as incapable?  Has that not happened in every one of her books?  In statistics, we determine that a distribution of data does not change through additive transformations; only multiplicative.  She explores new writing styles, and creates larger cities with increasing details, yet the meat of the story, and its messages, are unchanging.

Although, I am disappointed that each heroine goes farther with her sweetheart than the last, each more affected by a boy-man than the last.  Alanna's relationship with Jon was the best, but I may have to read it again and groan at every place the girl's thoughts wander to memories of soft kisses and intruding fingers.

Career Fair

At the time of writing I really should be visiting that career fair looking for possible future employers and summer internships.  Or, I really should be studying for my stats quiz.  But I don't feel up to either, and have spent my entire lunch hour reading Bloodhound, by Tamora Pierce, and I have this strange feeling I wouldn't be able to get myself to read any textbooks until I've finished.  There's a scent hound in the book that takes her work seriously but also demands pleasures in life, such as snapping after butterflies and dragonflies.  I'm probably not too different from her, but I only hope I haven't lost enthusiasm for what I study.  It seems like I might have, since I can hardly get up the energy to be excited whenever I make breakthroughs in understanding concepts, but no point mulling over that thought.

Alright, alright, I'm hurrying out the door.  Time to browse through their offerings and be disappointed with desk jobs and writing work.

RAWR.

Nothing like a good, infuriating BioStats141 quiz to get the blood flowing.  That and 5 sips of caffe macchiato from Olives which is basically pure caffeine.  I really was going for something like the caramel macchiato, honest.  BioStats141 is the only class wherein I intentionally caffeinate before lectures.

Now there is just anger, so physics reading until 7pm, physics office hour to finish that pset2 due tomorrow, Glee from 8-9, then bio pset2 and chem reading until 1am for bed.

Rawr.  Anger.

>:(

Oh, and career fair is tomorrow, not today.  Darn.

Facebook Stalker

Chau: "Facebook stalker on her study breaks."

I have all these one liners to write for my Facebook status, but I always let one liners stay for a while before replacing them.  My current one says " is now an artist who spends most of her time drawing molecular reactions and force diagrams...O.o".

But yeah, I do head over to Facebook on my 15 minute study breaks, and tonight I was browsing through the gallery of a friend of a friend, who really would be my friend if we were physically closer to each other, and how she spends her school years and summers.  It looks like a lot of fun, and I'm always envious of the school my friend goes to, five hours south of here.  Which leads me to think I'm either in the wrong place, or I'm incapable of making friends and enjoying company.  I mean, there's still hope yet. It took me many years in high school to find that group of friend to cling on to.  It might take a few years here in college before I meet those people.  But that may also say that I always seem to find myself in places with few friends, places that I should be in for what I want to do, but not necessarily compatible with how I want to live.

It's not a career, but it seems I'm already married to my work.  Will I ever put my life first?

And damn, that successful Baked Alaska looks amazing.
